Here’s what’s happening in the sales world this week:

A door-to-door solar salesman in Sarasota County, Florida, who allegedly refused to take no for an answer, is facing a battery charge. According to a probable cause affidavit, the homeowner told the salesman she was not interested and told him to leave her property multiple times, but he continued to try and make the sale. The victim told deputies the salesman became aggressive. The woman grabbed a walking stick and began walking down her driveway when she said the man tried to grab her walking stick and pushed her to the ground, where she struck her head on the asphalt driveway. A car salesman was robbed at gunpoint in west El Paso, Texas, prompting a call for community assistance to identify the suspect. The incident occurred on Saturday, at 1:30 p.m., when the victim, a salesman for Car Lots LLC, met with a man posing as a potential buyer. Upon returning to the parking lot, the suspect brandished a gun, threatened the victim, and ordered him out of the vehicle. The suspect then fled with the truck, which is valued at $19,800. I started at a mid-sized software company last October with about twenty people on the sales team. During my second week, our weekly team meeting was wrapping up when the sales manager casually mentioned the annual Halloween costume contest was coming up and the best costume would win a $250 gift card to this really nice restaurant in the area.

I decided to go all out. I dressed up as The Wolf of Wall Street the year before so I had the double-breasted pinstripe suit, and styled my hair to match Leonardo DiCaprio's slicked-back look. Halloween morning, I strutted into the office feeling confident. I walked through the bullpen expecting to see creative costumes.

Instead, I found everyone was in regular business attire, all staring at me with barely contained grins. The silence was deafening until someone finally broke: "Dude, there's no costume contest." Turns out the entire team had been in on it—a little hazing ritual for the new guy. They felt so bad watching me stand there in my full Wall Street costume that they actually chipped in and bought me the gift card anyway. But the damage was done. For the rest of the year, everyone called me "The Wolf." At least I got to take my girlfriend out to a nice dinner.
